What Do You Offer?

The Good Nail offers natural and artifical Japanese soft and semi-hard gel nail services. Why Japanese gels? Because they're the highest quality 100% gel products on the market and provide long lasting wear. Whether you want a simple one color structured gel manicure or gel extensions with detailed hand painted nail art, you can find it here.

My primary Japanese gel brands are Kokoist, Vetro, and Presto - I'm certified in all and update my education in them as needed. My large colour collections include Japanese and Korean gels along with high quality North American brands like Akzentz, Light Elegance, and Ugly Duckling.

I also provide gentle, waterless manicures, as soaking the natural nails can make it difficult for product to adhere and shorten the length of time the product lasts. Don't worry though, you'll still leave with soft and nourished hands!

While I do offer removal of product applied by another tech, since I won't know what product was previously used, we will need to talk prior to your appointment so I can be fully prepared. I may also need to charge an additional fee if the product takes much longer to remove - this is more of a concern with acrylic - but we'll discuss that up front.

What's an Overlay?

An overlay is a great option if you have naturally thin or weak nails and want to grow your natural nails longer, or just want to give your natural nails more strength. It involves the use of gels that contain both a base and a builder and placing that gel over your natural nail to give it the strength and structure that your natural nails lack. Longer or weaker natural nails may require a two part application of a base then a builder to provide structural strength.

What're Gel Extensions?

Extensions are for when you want to add extra length immediately to your natural nail. This involves using forms and a soft or semi-hard gel to achieve length beyond your natural nails and a strong structure for durability. You can also achieve unique shapes that aren't possible with natural nails.

What If I Want Really Long Nails?

Unfortunately, this is not a service I offer as I've chosen to focus on soft and semi-hard gels. I can extend your natural nails past your free edge, as long as the extension length matches the length of your nail plate.

The good news though, is a gel overlay will allow your natural nails to grow much longer than they would without the overlay, so it's possible to get to a longer length over time.

Why Don't You Offer Fills?

All of the services I provide are designed to last 3 weeks or more, and they're premium. What's that mean? It means you get a full rebalance and a complete manicure(extensive cuticle care, reshaping, hand massage)every time you visit!

What if you're especially rough on your nails or your nails grow really fast, can you rebook every two weeks? Absolutely. You'll just need to rebook your previous base Gel Overlay service. Also, as long as you haven't broken or removed your Extensions, you'll book a Gel Overlay for your subsequent visits.

What's IBX?

IBX is a system developed by Famous Names that treats weak, thin, and damaged nails and helps strengthen your natural nails so they can grow longer. It's always applied to the nail plate before any other product like an overlay or extension.

What Kind of Nail Art is Offered?

Nail art is my specialty at The Good Nail! Designs can range from simple to extremely detailed. They can involve all sorts of fun things like gems, metal accents, chrome, holographic finishes, 3d elements, handpainted designs, and much more.

Here is a breakdown of what my general art categories include:

Accent Nails

If you book a one colour but you want to add a little sparkle with a different polish to 2 of your nails, you can add this service to your base booking.

Minimal Art

Simple linework, different colours for each nail, ombre, chrome, sugaring, french tips, simple abstract shapes, etc. on as many nails as you want as long as it fits within the base service time frame you booked. You can always discuss your desired design prior to booking to make sure you book the correct service.

Moderate Art

More complex linework or ombre, marbling, simpler mixed design sets, which basically means a different design for each nail, and some handpainting on as many nails as you want as long as it fits in the time frame you booked. This is my most popular service since it offers the ideal balance between super simple and super complicated. Again, just reach out to make sure you book the correct service.

Maximal

Complex linework, character art, hand painted text, full coverage rhinestones, detailed 3D, etc. on as many nails as you want as long as it fits within the base service time frame you booked.Just reach out if you're not sure what art category your desired design falls under!

*For any desired art that takes a bit longer than your booked service, an additional $20 is charged every half hour, so make sure to talk with me prior if you need to make adjustments.

What About Removal and Repair?

If you want your nails done regularly I do not recommend full removal. I always like to keep the base on. This helps keep the nail plate healthier since you're not constantly filing or soaking product off. However, sometimes full removal is needed.

Removal at The Good Nail involves the use of an e-file and hand files when needed. I may need to soak off some particularly stubborn product remnants in acetone, but I generally avoid it.

Breaks, cracks, and damage happen to the best of us. A nail repair is needed if you have a broken nail you want to restore length to, or a tear in your nail that you don’t want clipped off or can’t be clipped off.

Just make sure to book a Broken Nail Repair or Torn Nail Repair if you know you have a crack or break, so I have enough time in your appointment to fix it.
